I’m Derek Pierce and I grew up in a small town in Alabama with no real formal training on computers, the internet or anything like that.
I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere and my first experience on a computer was when I was 20 years old.
There was no entrepreneurial background – the talk I got was like so many others –
“Go to school, get a good job.”
But the corporate world chewed me up and spit me out.
Both of my parents worked – but I was always fascinated with the make money opportunities located in the back of the magazines that promised riches overnight.
I remember, begging my folks for money to let me send off for one of those “Make Money from Home” reports that promised $24K in 24 hours with the dude standing in front of his boat.
Dad finally caved but would not send off for one of the make money reports, instead he sent off for one of the toy assembly offers. You’d make money from assembling toys, then mailing it back to them.
We got the kit with the toy we were to assemble and there was like a million pieces and you got paid peanuts, so they sent it back for a refund.
It was at that time, I found I had burning desire to have more from life.
And I knew the j-o-b wouldn’t cut it.
However, I finished college but it was with the lowest GPA you could have and still pass…
Then I got the good job making more money than I’d ever made.
And in the meantime, in December of 1998, I met the most amazing woman, fell in love, and married my soul mate in June of 2000.
Laura and I had our first child – Dawson in 2002.
Here’s a more recent pic…
The First REAL Challenge
By the time I was 25, I was already experiencing my first real challenge – the company I worked for and loved was getting bought.
In a nutshell, they told me to learn to love the new rules which meant lower pay, no vehicle allowance, all while my quota increased!
The next week, I turned in my notice.
And this notice was for good!
I made a vow to never be in that situation again.
Little did they know, but I was flipping houses and making even more than I was at the JOB.
From Investing in Real Estate to Internet Marketing…
The Real Estate market took a turn for the worse and I was left hold the bag.
Imagine just for a moment having 15 properties with 10 vacant.
That’s the real situation I was in.
It was a cash flow crunch like none other that I’d experienced.
After masterminding with some other investors locally, I decided I’d put my houses on eBay.
I never thought it would work but, to my surprise…
People from all over were looking at and bidding on my properties from my small town.
That’s when I had a revelation – if I could sell real estate in a small town in Alabama on the internet then…
I’ve got to start marketing online.
And that’s how the ball got rolling.
Since then, I’ve built a successful online business from the comfort of my home created numerous products and ranked hundreds of websites, videos and web 2.0 sites.
